Blackberry Jam

Blackberry picking season is here! This is one of my favourite times of year! Who doesn't love blackberry picking!

When I was younger we all went blackberry picking and then we would help my mum make jam and anything else we could think of! It's one of my fondest childhood traditions and it's something that I have already started with my 1 year old!

Maxine loves blackberry picking! She enjoyed chomping on the blackberries with us and helped us put them in our tub!

Whenever we go to my parents, where they have blackberry bushes, Maxine asks us to pick blackberries for her! She loves freshly picked blackberries! Who doesn't!

This blackberry jam is one of the first things i've been able to make with our freshly picked blackberries!

It's sugar free which I know is important to a few of our readers!

Katie and I videoed me making us making this one as well so there will be a youtube video up very soon, i'll post as soon as it's up. Subscribe to my youtube channel for updates straight away!

We like our jam to have seeds so this recipes is for that but it's super simple to take the seeds out. Just strain through a siv and that will make your jam seedless.

The good thing about this jam is it doesn't have to be blackberries, you could make raspberry or blueberry jam. Really any fruit should work.

I hope you like this as much as we do.

Ingredients

2 Cups Blackberries - Cleaned

2 tbsp Lemon Juice - The lemon juice neutralises the acid in the fruit, this means that your jam will be able to set.

1-2 tbsp Agave Nectar - This is your sweetner so taste it once you've put it in. Everyone prefers different amounts so you might more than this.

2 tbsp Chia Seeds - Chia seeds swell in the mix and make it so your jam can set.

Method

* In a large pan, mash the berries and lemon juice together, on a medium heat.

* Bring to a boil, simmer until the berries are softened.

* Remove from the heat and stir in the agave nectar and chia seeds. Make sure you taste as the agave nectar goes in to make sure you don't want more.

* Let set for 10-20 minutes. This gives the chia seeds time to expand and helps your mix set.

Store in the fridge.

Serve

Enjoy!
